Dr. Chien originally received her dental training at West China University of Medical Sciences where she served on faculty in the department of preventive dentistry. After she came to the United States, she went to Harvard School of Dental Medicine and received her Doctor of Medicine degree. She completed her pediatric dental training in Osaka Dental University in Japan in 1989 and in the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1994.
Dr. Chien is a proponent of preventive dentistry. She has a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has been a research scientist with multiple publications and meeting presentations in areas of cavity prevention and pediatric restorative materials.
